Jānis Baumanis // World RX
Name: Jānis Baumanis
Date of birth: 15.06.1992.
Team: TEAM STARD
Car: Ford Fiesta
Jānis Baumanis kicked off his motorsport career in crosskarts at the age of 15 before trying his hand at rallycross for the first time in 2008 in the NEZ Rallycross Championship. Over the next two seasons Baumanis won two championship titles in his native Latvia and one Baltic championship title, following it up with European Super1600 and Estonian Rallycross Supercar titles in 2015.
Following a handful of World RX Supercar starts in 2014 and 2015, Baumanis received a full season campaign in 2016 as part of the World RX Team Austria outfit, securing a best finish of fourth place in Barcelona. A move to Team STARD for 2017 yielded a popular run to the final on home soil in Latvia, as well as a season’s best fifth place and 12th overall. In 2018 Baumanis continued to drive at the wheel of the Ford Fiesta with Team STARD, qualifying for 9 semi-final races, and a sole Final appearance, which was finished with a Bang – Jānis Baumanis is currently the only Latvian to have received a Monster Energy Supercharge Award, for the best reaction time at the start of the final in Canada. At the end of the season Jānis found himself 9th overall.
2019 is the third season that Jānis Baumanis is part of Team STARD. This year, the team has received technical support from Ford Performance, which was integral in significantly improving the car for this season. After a very consistent showing in the beginning of the season, reaching three finals in a row, Baumanis showed that he belongs among the elite in rallycross by finishing third in Norway and then, two events later, improving on that result with a second place in Canada. Jānis is fifth in the championship standings before the event in Latvia.
Reinis Nitišs // Euro RX // Supercar
Name: Reinis Nitišs
Date of birth: 16.12.1995.
Team: GRX Taneco
Car: Hyundai i20
Reinis Nitišs began his motorsport career in karting at the age of seven. By the age of 13, he had secured Latvian and Baltic titles. In the following years Nitišs moved to rallycross and by 2012, he had won the Estonian, Baltic and NEZ championships. In 2013, Nitišs campaigned his first full season of the FIA European Rallycross Championship in the Super 1600 class and brought home the title by winning six out of nine races.
In 2014 Nitišs moved to headline World RX Supercar category with Ford Olsbergs MSE and finished the year third overall. For 2016, Nitišs joined the German ALL-INKL.COM Muennich Motorsport to compete full-time, before ending the season competing for OMSE. In 2017, Nitišs joined the EKS team of Mattias Ekstrom to end the season 14th overall. Last season Nitišs has switched to Euro RX to drive an M-Sport built Ford Fiesta prepared by Set Promotion. The smaller number of events makes it possible for Nitišs to try his hand at other motorsports disciplines – touring car racing, rallying and buggy racing. Though, it did not mess around with rallycross – winning 3 out of 5, Nitišs spectacularly grabbed European Championship title in Supercar category. Moreover, the deciding points and final victory came in his home race in Latvia, at CSDD Bikernieki Circuit.
2019 has been a new experience for Reinis Nitišs – he is the development driver for GRX, helping the team test and improve its cars. Even though this means that Reinis is doing his job away from the attention of cameras, he has not stayed away from racing completely, taking part in multiple World RX events. After crashing out of the season opening event in Abu Dhabi, he came back strong in Sweden where he finished third and beat some of the best drivers on the planet.
Jānis Veģeris // Euro RX // Supercar
Name: Jānis Veģeris
Date of birth: 23.06.1971.
Car: Citroën DS3
Jānis Veģeris began his racing career quite late. Even though, he had wanted to race cars for quite some time, he had to wait a bit for the right opportunity to arise. This is only his fourth season, but he has shown immense progress during this time.
The choice to compete in rallycross and autocross was made for a multitude of reasons. Being alone in the car, as opposed to rally, means that Jānis is in full control of what is happening. Until now, Jānis’ highest achievements have come in autocross, having competed in the European Championship in 2018, with valuable experience gained on various surfaces.
He will compete in Neste World RX of Latvia in a Citroën DS3, which was completed just last year. It took a lot of time to sort out some technical issues, but there is hope that it is all in the past now and Jānis will be able to show the car’s true potential here in Biķernieki.
Compared to autocross, rallycross is much easier on the car, which the drivers grow accustomed to and do not want to see damaged all the time. This is why a choice was made to compete in the European Rallycross Championship round here in CSDD Biķernieki circuit. Here, Jānis has twice already this year, though, not hoping high for a formidable result in his debut.
